Good for general purpose but not good for streaming

This is good and possibly a nice product for a school kid. For professionals, it is not good because you can’t do some basic stuffs like remote login using SSH, youtube streming etc.
Asus — I Returned Mine After Five Days
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I really loved this little Asus netbook for the first 3 days. I can’t begin to describe the problems, but it finally crashed and I kept getting a message that told me “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEMvgaoem.fon. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM”. Okay… first of all, I only got a support CD, not a Setup CD with the netbook. Second, there is no internal CD drive anyway so it was all useless. I emailed Asus Support but didn’t hear back from them. I gave up after a couple of days because I was ready to leave town. Fortunately Amazon, as always, immediately agreed to give me a full refund (I returned the Asus Eee PC) so that I could go out to a retail store and buy a Toshiba NB305 netbook in time for my vacation… and it works very well. BTW, three weeks later I finally got the instructions from Asus Support which might have enabled me to restart the first netbook using the F9 key at Start-up. Not much help at that point, though. I still heartily recommend buying at Amazon — it is wonderful about refunds or replacing defective products and ensuring customer satisfaction. Too bad Asus isn’t as concerned.
Computer ok. AC adapter sucks

computer is fine. nice feel, nice screen and keyboard, lay-out is comfortable. However, the charger went out after only a couple of weeks.
Great netbook

I had purchased one of these for my wife at Christmas. I then showed a client these and they purchased four. The battery life is great. Well built and most importantly, the wife loves it.
great traveling netbook

had an acer aspire before keyboard messed up and goofed up plug replacing keyboard. Got this computer to replace it and i like ut a lot battery life great and keyboard seems much sturdier than my previous netbook. At first i thouyght had charging problems but make sure you connect it well at transformer and input. Love the long battery life on this which is very convenient when traveling along with the built in wireless card. I have windows xp and upgraded to 2 gb ram it runs very smooth. Now i use this to travel i got a usb keyboard and external monitor for my other so almost like a desktop lol. but this one goes with me when travel or move around would be great also for a student on a strict budget.

I looked very hard at this netbook, comparing it to others for close to a month, and decided to go with this one instead of the newer ones with Windows 7 Starter. XP ran very well on my 904HA, so I wanted to go with this model. yeah, yeah, the OS is almost eight years old, but it runs more solid than Windows 7 Starter, and I didn’t want to be limited by Starter’s lack of offerings.
the battery life averages about eight and a half hours with wi-fi, bluetooth, and the camera on. I turned off the camera and got about nine hours out of the battery. I also turned down the display to extend the battery life even more. I can truly testify that all day computing can be done without being a slave to the power cord, and that is a big relief to me. I have to run a screen reader on this system due to me not being able to see the screen, so the average time I get from the batttery varies slightly from other reviewers. I did upgrade the RAM, and I can’t offer any scientific evidence of it, but I believe the addition of one more GB of RAM has an effect on the battery life. Replacing the RAM was easy, and I’ve been on the insides of computers for fourteen years. Easiest upgrade, IMHO!
I do like the Live Update Asus packaged up with the netbook, and the BIOS has been updated twice since I first received the netbook almost four weeks ago. Asus’s diligence in offering BIOS updates is a relief since they are continuing to provide updates on this product, even though it’s almost a year old.
I yanked off Microsoft works and the sixty day trial of Office 2007 and put my own copy of Office 2007 on the netbook, and it runs satisfactorily for me. the EEE PC Super Hybrid Engine has been updated since I had my 904HA, and I did notice the difference in this update. It seems to honor more closely what the setting you set, and doesn’t take as long to set the processor to the new setting.
I wanted to go with the blue model because that’s my favorite color. Black is cool, but I’ve noticed other reviewers saying it picks up fingerprints more easily. I like the feel of the chasis. it’s not slick like the 904HA was. It has a rougher feeling context, so in cool weather, it won’t slip when you pick it up.
the boot time is extremely fast, about 39 seconds between turning on the machine until I hear the Windows logon music. this is with Eset Smart Security Suite 4.0.467 on it. I wouldn’t touch Norton with a stolen blankity blankity blank!
I’m waiting on the problems others have had with the power cord, and if I do encounter this, I will update this review.
If you need a netbook that rivals your desktop for reliability, go with this one. It’s not a dual-core or quad-core processor, but it is better than lugging around an eight pound laptop that gives you three hours of battery life, if you’re lucky.
Great netbook

This netbook has everything you would need in a portable unit. My only conplaint is that the way the unit is set up it is not well balanced and the lid can easliy tip the unit back if not set on a flat surface. It also has the tendency to collect every finger print that gets close to it. I read that in other reviews before I bought it but still spent the money on this because of the reliablilty. I can get over finger prints. I also bought one of the clear plastic covers that snap on the top and bottom to try to deter the finger print problem but found this thing made the balance problem even worse due to the flip up legs on the bottom are placed so far inward it will hardly stand on it’s own. I do not reccommend these covers. If anyone has a solution to the fingerprint problem please let me know. Overall this is a really cool netbook and I would definetely recommend it.
Little Netbook BIG problems!!!

When I first got my ASUS, I was happy happy happy! I thought I dodged the bullet that some other unlucky negative response buyers got. It seems ASUS is shipping out BAD power cords that get HOT and must burn up something..that ultimately fries the computer totally?!
I took my little ASUS on a vacation (the reason I need a netbook..travel), downloaded pitures, later in the vacation, I noticed the cord getting hot, called ASUS. told to get the RMA and ship it back at my expense etc etc. I told them I would as soon as I got home……Meanwhile, the ASUS netbook crashes to blue screen. Call ASUS support and was told to do a complete restore which I did and in the process lost all pictures I downloaded. THe netbook worked for a day…then blue screen….another restore….worked for an hour or less and BLUE screen. Then it totally shut down. Not even working in safe-mode. Just a 3 lb weight in my suitcase and had to use my blackberry for email etc. Luckily I only lost one day of vacation pictures.
….I called Amazon and they gave me instructions to return…had some trouble with a mix-up on the return, but in the end, Amazon gave me the refund. I love Amazon, but wish they would get reps that are easier to understand. THe rep that finally helped me (after talking to 4 other reps) was WONDERFUL.
….going to try my luck with an Acer Aspire netbook. This will be my third try with a netbook. Hopefully 3rd time is the charm….
OK machine, HORRIBLE support and service
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Hope you never have any problems. I purchased the machine from BestBuy and ASUS refuses to support it short of me mailing it back to them. For a machine marketed towards business travels, with a VIP support plan that will cover “anything” for 60 days, plus 1 year on the machine itself from fault, they will do nothing for you.
Customer service for business customers means prompt, reliable support to get you back to work asap. Customer service from ASUS means they assume you’re liar and will expect you pay for priority, insured mail to and from them from FEDEX/UPS.
Its a new product, so no third party support or accessories will work. Save your self the headache and buy a machine from a reputable company with a good support history.
