freezes up
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I purchased the NB 205 two months ago. For the first several weeks all was well but then freeze ups began occurring. There was no pattern but the netbook has to be manually shut down and restarted quite often. I had added AVG and their scan showed no viral infections. I called Toshiba and twice their low level techs could do nothing…not even strip the computer to factory conditions. A higher level tech was supposed to call and several days later they did call but I was not there and now must get back in line. Fred Meyer will not take it back so right now I am stuck with a very undependable machine.
Very good product

I was surprised with the finish of the product as well as the time battery duration. I’ve done a lot of research, and this netbook is probably ranking on the top five.
Great Netbook!

I love this netbook. It is exactly what I was looking for. It runs great. The small size is easy to get used to. It’s got a long battery life of course.
Broken out of the box…
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I was so excited to get my netbook and stop lugging around my stone-age Dell laptop. The item shipped quickly. I took it out of the box, plugged it in, waited about 30 minutes and went to turn it on. My beautiful little netbook refused to turn on. In fact, the power button was jammed down and stuck in that position.
I contacted the seller, DataVision. They offered to replace it immediately with no questions asked. Unfortunately, when the customer service rep looked at their inventory, he saw that there were no more available. Apparently I can still send it back and get merchandise credit. They suggested I call Toshiba since the unit is still under the manufacture’s warranty. Seemed reasonable enough, I bought the computer new and it wasn’t working out of the box.
Toshiba was less than helpful to say the least. Tech support informed me that this is a common problem with this particular model, but assured me they had a solution. They wanted to ship me a replacement hinge so that I could fix the problem myself. I’m reasonably savvy when it comes to technology, but I don’t feel that it is my responsibility to take apart the netbook and reassemble it, especially since I received it as a $400 paperweight. To add insult to injury, it takes 7-10 business days to ship from the warehouse (depending on availability). I asked to speak to a manager. I got Jesse on the line and he turned out to be a tool. He suggested that the seller opened the box, broke the computer and wanted to get rid of it so they posted it on Amazon as a “new” product. He got very defensive when I told him that seemed like a bit of a stretch for someone to open a computer, break it in a manner that is consistent with an issue this computer has, clean the unit, repackage it, put all of the stickers back on it (which would have been torn in the first place), put it back in the box, wrap everything back up, re-affix the security seals and then send it on its way. He insisted that this “happens all of the time with ebay and amazon purchases.” Interesting theory. He then told me that I could ship it back to the Toshiba repair center. At least this would eliminate the possibility of me breaking it while trying to repair it. This process also takes 7-10 business day plus shipping time and I have to pay for shipping out of pocket. Normally I wouldn’t mind paying for shipping, but I’ve had this netbook for less than an hour, and I’ve never got to turn it on let alone use it. Maybe I’m being unreasonable, but it seems like a rip-off to pay to have something fixed that I received broken in the first place.
I will say that its a great looking little computer and its amazingly light. I was really looking forward to using it, but it appears I’ll have to wait. I’m sure I’ll end up getting the part shipped to me and I’ll be able to take care of it myself, but I was appalled by the customer service at Toshiba.

I guess mini computor explains it. It lacks volume in sound and needs to have more memory added. But it is good to travel with to hold pictures and to see what they look like.
Working out great

Mines actually shipped with Windows XP installed instead of Windows 7 Starter, which is what I preferred anyways. Did not need to upgrade the RAM to 2GB because I use XP and ran mostly firefox, microsoft office, itunes, videos, etc. If you’re going to game, use photoshop, install windows 7 ultimate or other heavy apps then upgrade to 2GB RAM.
Battery life on this netbook is ridiculously long. Definitely survives for up to 9 hours. I’m in class/on campus from 11-7 or 8 most days and I don’t need to bring the charger ever. But the charger is also very light and small so it’s not a burden to carry around.
I really enjoy the chiclet keyboard – i dont hit the wrong key as much. Took about a week to get used to the keyboard (fullsized which is rare on a netbook), but now I can type faster on this keyboard than my normal laptop (dell xps). I can pretty much write down word for word what someone says (great for taking notes) with few typos, which I can’t do on my dell keyboard without hitting the wrong key.
Only negative is the audio speaker, which is on the bottom of teh laptop and basically nonexistent. But if you plug in speakers/headset it works fine.
All in all this is a really good netbook. I would say better than asus. I’ve had it for about 2 months and haven’t had any problems.
Oh also the design is very cute (way cuter than asus’s pink one). I’ve gotten many many compliments on the look
For my college student son
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My son is a genuine geek whose dorm room has its own little network. He had been using a handheld but it died. He has a nice Asus laptop but it’s very bulky and heavy. This little netbook serves a better purpose than the handheld or his laptop. He can write his programs on it, take notes on it, and listen to some music. It’s light and is much better ta haul around a sprawling college campus than a large laptop. And the price was great!
Perfect Netbook!!!

I was looking for something small to be able to bring to school/coffee shops to do work. At first I bought the Asus Eee, but realized the keys were far too cramped and I prefer Windows XP to Windows 7. This Toshiba netbook is MUCH better than the Asus because the keyboard is easier to type on and its more aesthetically pleasing. The matte silver finish keeps from seeing fingerprints, etc and I like the pearl white color of the exterior. Also the battery life is 1-2 hours longer than the Asus–with 9 hours of battery life I can use it anywhere and everywhere and hardly have to bring the charger with me! Also I read a lot of the reviews before buying this one and I disagree with the people who were complaining about the speakers. For such a small device the speakers are sufficient–you can’t expect it to have amazing sound quality. I can still watch/listen to youtube, etc just fine. Also the wireless internet speed is amazing–it’s even faster than my macbook.
The only complaints I have so far are none of the netbook cases I’ve tried have fit so I’m going to have to order one online. Also it doesn’t have microsoft office (only microsoft works). It takes a little bit of time to adjust to the keyboard (specifically the upper left side where the tab and #1 buttons are hard to reach). Other than that it’s an awesome netbook!

As usual with Amazon, the netbook arrived right away. Since then, I have been very pleased with the performance. The screen resolution and the battery life are unbelievable. The only problem is the noted cursor jumping. It’s a bit annoying and takes some getting used to.
All-in I recommend this netbook especially for the price. I have been using it to give online demos with multiple applications running simultaneously.

Had a ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook, almost DOA, Amazon was great returned it PostPaid no trouble so we bought this Toshiba Netbook, great machine, biggest reason its RAM is upgradeable very very easy….like falling of a log!
Long battery life, very nice looking, Amazon was great.
Only drawback would like to have had Win7 come on it but with two Gigs can buy that later.
